Bio
Stefania is an Italian photographer who currently lives and works in New York City. In 2010 she received a MA in Design Studies from Central Saint Martins (London). Her interest in photography started during that college year, to a point that it became the main focus of her final project. She explored the idea of photographing while running, which then grew into her main occupation once she moved to New York, as she started to regularly photographing running events for major brands (Nike, JPMorgan, Virgin Sport, etc.) all around the world.
Her first approach to photography was with film. Printing in the darkroom, a discipline that she cultivates on her own, is fundamental in her artistic practice. She has been an assistant to fine art photographers and printers and has been a TA for darkroom classes at ICP since 2011.
If her professional work often brings her to the most chaotic settings (fashion weeks, bike races, marathons) she strives to find serene settings for her personal work. She mostly photographs when she is travelling, trying to find people that seem to complement the settings they are in. Stefania uses her camera to see and frame slivers of the world that seem peaceful and frozen in time. Her preferred medium is black and white film.
Her commissioned work has been published in The New York Times, Time Magazine, Bloomberg Pursuits, The Daily Front Row and her clients include Nike, Lululemon, Bandier, Michael Kors, Bonhams Auctioneers, JPMorgan Chase, Facebook and Virgin Sport.
